Monster Trucks (2016)
With a title like Monster Trucks, it's really not as bad as it could've been. However, with a faulted second half and childish writing, it's hard to say this is good in anyway rather than arguably enjoyable. It's odd Nickelodeon Studios presented this, but after realizing it it's easy to tell. I didn't mind many of the characters, but none of them had any development and were one dimensional. There was the usual setup of characters: the hero with a flawed family, the friend who would eventually become the girlfriend and of course the antagonist who gets in the way of it all. The villain was the reason why everything felt off. Monster Trucks paralleled E.T. in many ways, yet failed to surpass any of its competition. After all, E.T. is one of the best movies made. The alien octopus looking creature is lovable, I just didn't feel attached to him as I do with friendly creatures in other movies. I'm not going to go into too much detail because there's really not much to address. The climax was boring and didn't seem to make much sense, while most of the movie failed to do a lot I wanted it to. Overall, Monster Trucks is a film that only small children could like. Other than that, it's another miss in the family movie genre. 3/10.
