Much love to every single one of you who have either contributed to our platform, participated in our creative projects, or simply enjoyed our daily content. You inspire us and we do this for you.
I started the #GullySteez
brand almost 7 years ago thinking we'd be the next big streetwear company and I dubbed our slogan as: "More Than Streetwear". At the time that slogan didn't fit our image because we really were just a streetwear brand. But something deep inside me strived for more. I told myself daily that I'd eventually figure out a way to be more than just a t-shirt company. I wanted to somehow provide value to our followers. I didn't know that I'd have to figure that out due to internal issues that eventually blew up our ownership group. However, things truly do happen for a reason. It was at my lowest point when I had lost my partners and my graphic designer that my true vision for the brand started to cultivate.
Since I wasn't in a position to make our own clothes anymore and my design background was strictly conceptual I started to get creative. It was either that or quit on my childhood dream and I've always been too stubborn to quit anything I start.
Our GullySteez family of creative souls was formed as an avenue for us to become a free promotional platform. I networked with countless individuals from all over the world and slowly but surely more and more original projects followed suit (some of them shelved today and others in the background until it's time to come out the woodworks). Today we run two sketch contests (@Sketchathon_
), a graffiti battle called @SteezWars
that's partnered with the good folks at @Blackbookology
, and we also host a yearly poetry giveaway @SecretPoetryStash
which just concluded it's third year.
This has been quite the long journey and it has tested my patience and my dedication each and everyday. I've thought about quitting countless times but one thing keeps me pushing: YOU. Every single person I've touched base with is what keeps the dream alive. Knowing that we help with exposure, with moral support, and through our original projects drives me forward as well. Thank you!
