Number 14 of 100 Interesting People in 2017 : Ahmed Naguib @amnaguib
Ahmed is proof of how small the world is.
In 2010 I spent 12 weeks as an intern for an NGO called The Access Project in Kigali, Rwanda. While I was in Rwanda, I met and hung out with some Peace Corp Volunteers.
In 2016, while at a company event in St. Charles, IL, I met this familiar looking guy. He thought I looked familiar too but we both thought it was probably because we work at the same place so had met before at work.
After trading back stories, It turns out Ahmed was one of the Peace Corp volunteers in Rwanda, and was also working for the same NGO I worked with at the same time! But he was based in another part of the country so we only met once on his last day at a sendoff lunch. I later found a group picture with both of us in it. And now 6 years later, we both work in Chicago at the same company!
I have to develop a statistical model to calculate the odds of meeting someone in Rwanda and meeting them again in Illinois 6 years later. Until then, know that the world is a very small place, you never know who's path you will cross again.
