I stumbled today quite randomly upon a TED video from a French writer, Laurent Gounelle, on how to fully become yourself and to fully get rid of living through fake identities. Your job, your relationships, your clothes, your possessions, your appearance do not define who you are. Worse, they can lock you into a bubble of fake identities and you end up living through them and not really for who you are and for your true values. Even worse, they may keep you away from even knowing who you really are and what your true values are. He talks about how success can make you identify yourself to your succesful achievement and subsequently lock you away into yet another fake identity. And he talks about cultivating gratitude as a way to reach confidence, self love and develop an open heart and mind towards life, that ultimately leads to freedom and peace with others and yourself.
To me, developping gratitude and humility, through many solo travel encounters with beautiful, generous, kind human beings, was truly what made me break free from old judgements, ideas and all these fake identites that were locking me in a path that wasn't right for me, whether they were unconciously imposed to me by society, advertisement, family, friends, academic environment...
So here it is to all these amazing human beings that have helped me over the years to understand that life is bigger and deeper than what we are told, and here is to loving oneself, being free and at peace, and having immense love, gratitude and humility towards what really matters in life 🌻.
